Tennis finishes perfect season with a 6-3 win
This past Saturday, MIT Womenâs Tennis finished their season with a strong win over Trinity. In doubles both the number one team of Lauren C. Quisenberry â14 and Candace L. Wu â14, and the number two team of Julia C. Hsu â14 and Bianca M. Dumitrascu â13, destroyed their opponents with scores of 8-2. This brought MIT into the lead 2-0. Melissa A. Diskin â11 and Katharine A. OâNeal â14 had a closer match. After the turning game at 2-all, they took the lead to win their match 8-4. In exhibition, Jennifer A. Rees â11 and Jenny C. Dohlman â11 had a long match. The match was decided in the tie breaker, where they won 9-8(6). Caitlin R. Pomeroy â13 and Hillary E. Jenny â12 lost their match 8-0. Over all MIT was in the lead 3-0 going into the singles matches.
Tennis earns two more wins
Last Wednesday MIT Womenâs Tennis had a long match against Brandeis University. The number one team of Lauren C. Quisenberry â14 and Candace L. Wu â14 lost 8-3 to their opponents. The number two doubles team of Julia C. Hsu â14 and Bianca M. Dumitrascu â13 dominated the court and won their match 8-4. The doubles team of Melissa A. Diskin â11 and Katharine A. OâNeal â14 defeated their opponents 8-5, giving MIT a 2-1 lead.
Womenâs Tennis plays in Wellesley Invitational
This past weekend MIT Womenâs Tennis played in the Wellesley Invitational. In the first match they played SUNY New Paltz. The doubles matches went quickly. The number one team of Lauren C. Quisenberry â14 and Candace L. Wu â14 and the number two team of Julia C. Hsu â14 and Bianca M. Dumitrascu â13 both defeated their opponents with a decisive score of 8-1. At number three Melissa A. Diskin â11 and Katharine A. OâNeal â14 defeated their opponents 8-3. During the doubles matches, Jenny C. Dohlman â11 played an exhibition match at seven singles and completed her match quickly, defeating her opponent 8-0, hardly losing a point. Overall, MIT went into the singles matches ahead 3-0.
Womenâs Tennis sweeps Mills College in California
This past week MIT Womenâs Tennis traveled to California for their spring break trip. The Engineers played Mills College on Caltechâs courts because their match against Caltech was canceled due to rain and Caltechâs traveling schedule. The team returned home with an official win of 9-0.

MIT Womenâs Tennis played Colby this past Saturday, winning by an official score of 7-2 (and unofficially, 10-3).

This past Thursday, MIT womenâs tennis visited Tufts. They put up a good effort, but were overwhelmed by their opponents, losing by an overall score of 8-1.

his past Saturday, the MIT womenâs tennis team visited Clark University, and left with a dominating 8-1 victory. The Engineersâ doubles teams started strong. Both the number one team of Lauren C. Quisenberry â14 and Julia C. Hsu â14 and the number two team of Melissa aA. Diskin â11 and Katharine A. OâNeal â14 won their sets 8-2, giving MIT a quick 2-0 overall lead. Then, the doubles exhibition match of Hillary E. Jenny â12 and Caitlin R. Pomeroy â13, who won of 8-3. Next off was the third doubles team of Jenny C. Dohlman â11 and Jennifer A. Rees â11, who came back from a 2-4 deficit to win the match 8-6. This sweep in doubles gave MIT 3-0 lead going into the singles matches.

This past Saturday, MIT womenâs tennis played their first match of the season against Smith College. The match started off with the doubles matches. First off was the freshmen doubles team of Lauren C. Quisenberry â14 and Julia C. Hsu â14. They breezed through their match and won decisively, 8-1. Next off were Melissa A. Diskin â11 and Katharine A. OâNeal â14. They played a tough match but lost 2-8; this made the overall score tied at 1-1. The next team to finish was Jenny C. Dohlman â11 and Jennifer A. Rees â11. They were down 2-4 in their match, but they quickly changed the momentum to win the next six games straight to take the match 8-4, giving MIT a 2-1 lead over Smith. Sonya Makhni â11 and Hillary E. Jenny â12 were the last ones on court. The match was close with both sides fighting for every point, but MIT pulled it out in the tiebreaker for the win, 9-8(5).
Tennis 0-3 over weekend
The MIT womenâs tennis team had a packed weekend with three matches. The first match was at Skidmore on Saturday. First doubles consisted of Anastasia Vishnevetsky â12 and Leslie A. Hansen â10; they played a tight match but lost 8-4. Playing second was Melissa A. Diskin â11 and Bianca M. Dumitrascu â13. They had a interesting strategy of calling up four times in a row. The first three they would hit a lob, and the last one they would hit straight at the opponent. In the end, they lost 8-5. Third doubles was Jenny C. Dohlman â11 and Hillary E. Jenny â12. They also played a tough match but lost 8-4. In number four doubles, were Jennifer A. Rees â11 and Anisa K. McCree â10, who made her debut after coming back from a knee injury. They both played aggressively at the net, and it paid off in the end with a win of 8-3. Over all MIT was behind 3-0 going into the singles matches.
Womenâs tennis falls 2-7 to Bates in close matches
This past Saturday, womenâs tennis played against Bates in the second match of the season, falling 7-2. They had a smoky, fiery welcome, when a small fire started in the facility that caused a delay in the match. Luckily, it was put out and play was allowed to continue.

This past Friday, MIT Womenâs tennis suffered a tough loss to Tufts 9-0. The tennis team was down to six players due to sickness and injuries, making for an interesting lineup. They came back to win on Saturday against Clark University.

MIT Womenâs Tennis defeated Colby this past Saturday, winning 9-0. The warm day allowed the players to compete outside, which also allowed the many fans to see the action better. Among the fans was Kat Pick, a former assistant coach who came out to support the team. With the support of the fans, the team headed out to play doubles.

This past Saturday, the MIT womenâs tennis team defeated Bates College 7-2 in their opening match of the Spring Season. Adding to the excitement was the fact that this was the first match attended by Caroline Hamilton â the adopted teammate from Friends of Jacyln, which matches children with brain tumors with college and high school athletic teams. The teamâs confidence after the first match, Caroline, and fan support gave them a good start.

Leslie Hansen Makes MIT History in Finals Of ITA Championship
The MIT Womenâs Tennis Team started off a busy week by making history at the ITA New England Championships this weekend and went on to defeat Babson College 7-2 on Tuesday. Leslie A. Hansen â10 is the first player in MIT womenâs tennis history to be a singles finalist. Hansen blazed through the draw until she reached the semifinals, which any team member who witnessed the match would describe only as âsimply amazing.â Hansen won in three sets with a score of 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (4). Hansen then lost a tough match with a score of 5-7, 0-6 in the finals.

On Saturday, the MIT womenâs tennis team defeated Smith College 8-1. After a few inconvenient delays, MIT arrived at Smith ready to play. Following closely on their heels was the team of seniors Karina N. Pikhart â09 and Yi Wang â09, who finished their opponents off with another decisive 8-0 score.

Lady Engineers Finish Spring Season in New York With Close Losses
The womenâs tennis team hit a rough patch last week to close out their season, barely losing to both Skidmore College and Vassar College. MIT played Skidmore first on Saturday. First up were the double matches, where even a twisted ankle wouldnât slow down Karina N. Pikhart â09 and her partner Melissa A. Diskin â11. After hitting a winner, Pikhart scared her teammates as she stumbled and twisted her ankle. After taking a bit to recover, she got up and continued playing. The duo went on to win the match 8-6, making it clear that one can never underestimate these Lady Engineers, even when injured.
