There is much more to junior Brendan T. Deveney than meets the eye. On the surface, he is merely a swimming phenomenon. Just a few weeks ago he helped lead the MIT Menâs Swimming Team to a fourth-place ďŹnish at the National Championships, placing 5th in the 200-yard individual medley. In an exclusive interview with the Tech, Deveny revealed that his talents in the pool are only the tip of the iceberg, and that he is an incredibly well-rounded individual.
LA Galaxy to keep Beckham
This past January, professional soccer player David Beckham ended doubts about leaving the MLS after he re-signed with the Los Angeles Galaxy for an additional two years. As the end of Beckhamâs ďŹve year contract drew near in the late months of 2011, it was unclear whether he would stay with the American club or move to French club, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). Earlier in 2011, PSG made serious attempts to sign Beckham to their squad, promising to more than match any offers by the Galaxy. Although Beckham deferred his decision until after the MLS Cup Championship, he finally announced that he would stay with the Galaxy. This decision marks a renewed commitment to the Galaxy, the MLS, and soccer in America.
Swimming and Diving takes NEWMAC title
Our Engineers got off to a decisive start at this yearâs NEWMAC swimming and diving finals this weekend. The menâs and womenâs teams opened the meet winning a combined 8 of 13 events. By the end of the first evening, the menâs team led with an impressive 323 points to second place United States Coast Guard Academy with 220 points. The womenâs team held a strong lead with 323 points over Springfield Collegeâs 256.
